THE INITIAL IDEA
The idea behind this experiential event was to engage the good people of London in a Free Fall dive to give them a feel of what it would be like to "fly like Eddie the Eagle". The stunt was designed by our client who we helped to create the tower, the free fall airbag and the branding around it.
Thousands of people pass through Pottersfields near City Hall, London every hour and we knew we would have a brilliant turn out should the weather hold out.
It was vital that the planning of this event was executed to the highest level as all public events are. As this was fairly last minute booking of only 2 weeks notice, we knew that the design, the concept and the initial proposal had to be clear from the beginning.
HOW WE DID IT
We had been given a scope of work from the client which had been to create the activation that would run from 10am to 6pm. We provided 3D sketch ups of the branded bag along with the tower which also had bespoke branding throughout. Everything was fit to scale and designed to the finest detail ensuring that, what was suggested by the client was delivered to the highest degree.
We worked alongside our scaffolding suppliers who were on site from 6am, building the tower. We were then able to do some test runs from a 5-metre platform and then a 7-metre platform. By test runs we mean we climbed to the top and jumped. After all of our RAMS were complete we were then able to open to the public. Members of the public were invited into the mini village designed and created by the client to get dressed up in 60's style ski wear, put on their foam skis and fly like Eddie The Eagle.
We have completed many brand activations, experiential events and product launches before and this one is up there with the best. Many times we have supplied a Free Fall Stunt Bag for events all over the UK and on every occasion it has been incredibly fun.
For this event to be a success, public engagement was paramount. VUE Cinema were there on hand to witness the activities throughout the day capture all who jumped including Arg and Lockie from the hit TV show TOWIE.
Social media engagement also played a large part in the success of this event with thousands of tweets, Instagram posts and Facebook posts helped spread the word and the overall experience of the Eddie The Eagle Movie.
